Holy Sepulcher welcomes new teacher for 2016-17


Adrianne Shifter, who has worked in several area Catholic elementary schools, has been hired as a kindergarten teacher at Holy Sepulcher Catholic School in Middlesex Twp.

“Holy Sepulcher has many distinguishing characteristics and one of them is our enthusiastic and seasoned faculty that sees our school as a tight-knit and caring community where our Christian faith is paramount,” says the principal, Sr. Anna Marie Gaglia. “Adrianne brings considerable classroom experience and a passion for literature and music that I believe will fit in quite well our mission of providing our students with a superior education.”

Mrs. Shifter earned an undergraduate degree in music from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, as well as her certification in elementary education. She later received her master’s in education (elementary and curriculum instruction) from the University of Scranton (PA).

Holy Sepulcher’s kindergarten program, which is full day, will have 28 students this coming school year. With the addition of Mrs. Shifter, the class will have two certified teachers, Anne Schratz, in her fourth year, is the other, plus a teacher’s assistant.

“Our kindergarten program is exceptional in the individual attention that each child receives,” says Sister Anna Marie. She notes that the curriculum includes language arts, math, science, social studies, Spanish, physical education including martial arts instruction, art, music, and the use of iPads, “all done in an environment of faith.”

Additionally, the kindergartners are paired with older Holy Sepulcher students for special projects and attending Mass, “forming relationships that often last through all eight years at the school,” says Sister Anna Marie.

Mrs. Shifter taught most recently at St. Margaret of Scotland in Pittsburgh, where she was a longtime faculty member, and she also bring classroom and leadership experience from St. Sylvester, St. Ursula and St. Athanasius schools.
