Holy Sepulcher school initiated a soccer program for our students in fall of 2014. We were able to start the soccer teams because of a generous offer from a Dick's Sporting Goods foundation of a $4,000 grant if our school-parish community could raise a matching $4,000, which we exceeded. We fielded two teams in the fall season and one team in spring, competing in the Pittsburgh diocesan soccer league against other Catholic schools.
Holy Sepulcher Hornets soccer will return in the spring. Sign-ups for girls and boys will begin in February 2016; registration will be $50/player.
The Hornets compete in the Diocesan Soccer League of Pittsburgh against area Catholic schools in a developmental league, which is intended to be instructional so players can learn the fundamentals of the game.
In the league's Fall 2015 season, Holy Sepulcher school fielded three teams: two teams comprised of 1st-2nd graders and a team of 3rd- and 4th-graders.
Practices for the Spring season will begin in mid-March. The eight-game season (four at home and four away) will kick-off on Saturday, April 2, and conclude May 28. Hornets home games are played on the field behind the school.
The league's developmental tournament, held in Marshall, is set for Saturday, June 4.
