ADAM:
We had a really nice send off for Adam last Sunday after the 10:30 a.m. Mass.
My Thanks to all who helped and baked cookies. I feel so good about having Adam
in our midst for these eight weeks. Just observing him in a well grounded prayer
life and a genuine interest in our lives was really good for me. He is so looking
forward to some time with family before returning to Rome for a very exciting
year which will include a retreat, Deacon ordination, all final preparations to
return home for priesthood ordination. Our plan is that he will return to Holy
Sepulcher to celebrate a FIRST MASS with us. Let us keep him in prayer as he continues
his journey to serve the Lord. ST. VINCENT DEPAUL: Wow! The St.
Vincent DePaul Society collected $3,394.42 via our second collection last weekend.
Once again your generosity is a shining light to the world. Those who have special
needs are the real winners because of your kindness. This collection was just
planned because it was a fifth Sunday of the month. But Sirach told us in the
first reading that “alms atone for sins.” It’s interesting, at least to me, how
God takes our little plans and gives them a bigger and better significance by
His words of Scripture. If you should ever need the services of the St. Vincent
DePaul society, please call the parish office, and they will come and assess your
situation and needs. There are green brochures on the bulletin table that describe
their services. Also, you can donate to St. Vincent any time you feel it’s a good
thing to do. Their box is in the wall as you enter the body of the church, using
the far right door. SCRIP MARKET DAY: Last weekend was also a good
time for our first Scrip-Market Day weekend. Here’s the scoop: Each school family
is required to raise $550 via fundraising projects and Holy Sepulcher parish is
to match that via fundraising for each family. So, if you purchase Scrip/Market
Day, you can identify a family you wish to support, or the Parish. If you don’t
identify one or the other and it’s a school parent selling Scrip that week, their
family and the parish will each get 1/2 of the earned profit credit. When a
non-school person is selling, then the credit will go to the school family identified
or completely to the church. Thanks for your support, as we all work together
to help our “financial picture.” BISHOP’S EDUCATION FUND: The second
collection next weekend will help support “The Bishop’s Education Fund.” This
fund has been able to help over 32,000 children with over $8.5 million in assistance.
This fund has made it possible for many children to have the advantage of
a Catholic school education. Once again, I ask you to participate as you see fit
and are able. LABOR DAY: Monday is Labor Day. We are blessed if we
have a job to go to. Come and celebrate Mass with us at 9:00 a.m. You can sleep
in and then come and give thanks for the many ways God has blessed you. (Our offices
will be closed for Labor Day.) R.C.I.A.: Our Rite of Christian Initiation
for Adults will be starting later this month. If you are not Catholic, please
consider coming to learn about our faith. You only make a commitment to become
Catholic when you learn the facts and beliefs. That is at Easter time. So, I invite
you to come and see. ————————————————————— VIGIL CANDLES: At our Finance
Council meeting on Monday, August 23, I asked “when is the last time we increased
our offering for Vigil Candles?” It was thought to be 15 years for more. I asked
the question because the profit margin is so low. So, as a Finance Council, we
decided to raise the offering to $3.00. So beginning next week,
the signage will be changed to reflect this change. SANCTUARY LIGHT:
We also discussed the SANCTUARY LIGHT CANDLE and ALTAR CANDLES. You may have noticed
in other church bulletins that these are offered for peoples intentions. So if
you would like the bulletin to read . .
The sanctuary candle or
The
altar candles this week are in memory of or donated by . . . . .
Please
stop in the office with a $10 donation. This must be done by the Monday before
to have it in the bulletin.
Parish
Improvement Suggestions
If
you have an idea that can help the Parish to grow or that could fill a need or
correct a problem, please type a short entry here and send it forward to me. All
entries will be held in the strictest confidence and will be forwarded to Father
Al for his consideration. Remember, this is our Parish, and whatever we can do
to make it better is a benefit for all! Thanks!
Parish

March For Life
2010
The most recent March For Life drew the largest
crowd yet! Not only did the march draw national attention, but our own Parish
got special attention in an article and video done by Daniel Malloy, Post-Gazette
Washington Bureau. See the article and video at: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10023/1030501-84.stm

Computer
Classes
We will be continuing our beginners' class this Thursday. There's always plenty
of room, so if you are just interested in learning how to use your computer better,
come on out and join in our classes. The fee for the class is, as it has always
been, a donation to the New Church Building Fund. So, come on out and join us!
This class is designed for the beginner, but "power-users" are welcome
and almost always pick up a couple of secrets even they didn't know. So, if you're
at all interested, come on out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the school to check
us out! I have had several folks talk about a potential Web Page Development
class. If you are interested in this, especially for a group, please give me a
call at 724-898-7207 to let me know, or send the form below. I am looking at putting
together some other new computer classes as the demand grows. These could include:
web page development, or whatever else interests a reasonable number of people.
Below is a form to specify your interests and to let me know if there are enough
students to warrant putting a new course together. Please send me your interests,
and if I have 5 or 6 students, I will develop a new course and respond to your
e-mail address. Watch this space for updates and coming attractions! Thanks.
Knights'
News
As a reminder
for our members, our next meeting will be Sep 1. We need to set up our schedule
for the coming year. We sure can use some fresh ideas, so come join us and share
yours! I'd like to remind all our brothers about our new Insurance Agent,
Brother Ken Scott. If you have any insurance needs, call Ken at 724-591-5618. As
always, the Knights are looking for a few good men! If you are interested in finding
out more about the Knights of Columbus, who we are and what we do, please call
Regis McAfee, 724-898-7207.
Bazaar
Donors
As
we heard, each year the businesses that donate $150 or more are listed here for
an entire year. If the business has a web page, a link to that site will be provided.
As soon as the new list of donors is available it will be posted here for your
use. This last year there was a tremendous response to our request for help
and support for our Parish Bazaar! Please thank these folks by supporting their
businesses as they supported our bazaar. The current list
of donors is here, along with web links where available. Visit their sites,
support their business, and thank them for their untiring support!
Religious
Education has established shopping sites at The Printery House and The Catholic
Company. Shoppers using these links to make their purchases will help raise funds
to support the Religious Ed projects.
